Melody Hossaini, one of the founder members of UKYP, and currently a Trustee, has been selected by Al Gore, former vice President of the United States, to deliver presentations similar to his Oscar-winning film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’.

Melody, 22, attended a two day conference in Cambridge at the end of March to receive training and share ideas with Al Gore and other carefully selected ‘Climate Leaders’.

Of her 150 fellow trainees – which included high flyers such asManchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Carphone Warehouse CEO Charles Dunstone and Chief Executive of BP Vivienne Fox – Melody was one of the very few representatives from the youth sector.

Addressing the Climate Leaders, Mr Gore said, “I hope that you willbe first of many deeply concernedcitizens who will receive this training in the UK and spread the message to deal with this looming threat to our planet, neighbours and way of life.”

They are all now a part of an Alumni Network and will work together where possible. In addition to this, Melody and her fellow trainers have all been invited back next year by Al Gore to share experiences.

Melody will provide feedback to Al Gore on a new version of the training designed for a younger age bracket. She hopes to work with young people from the UK Youth Parliament to deliver the presentation and possibly train other groups of young people.

Speaking after the conference, Melody said, “The clock is ticking for the opportunity to take action against climate change. It is this narrow window of opportunity which we must take and act now. And it is children and young people who need to be at the forefront of this”.

If you would like to be involved inthe fight against climate change,or would like a delivery of the presentation, please get in touch with Melody at melodyh@nya.org.uk or 0116 242 7437.
