UKYP Head of Programmes wins National Award

Kate Parish, UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) Head of Programmes, was the proud recipient of a national award last week, in recognition of her amazing contribution to the organisation and young people's lives.

The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS) Awards celebrate and recognise the contribution that volunteers or paid members of staff have made to the lives of young people in their area or organisation. Kate was one of just two winners at the inaugural awards ceremony, which took place at the Arsenal FC Emirates Stadium.

"Kate Parish is a worthy winner of the first ever NCVYS Awards," said Susanne Rauprich, Chief Executive of NCVYS. "We are impressed by her determination and drive that have made the UK Youth Parliament what it is today:  a well respected organisation creating many key opportunities for young people to get involved in policy making."

Andy Hamflett, UKYP Chief Executive, said, "Kate certainly deserves this award, after years of dedication that have led to opportunities for many thousands of young people across the UK and the world. She is incredibly passionate about providing structures for young people from all backgrounds to have their say, and has been instrumental – far above and beyond the call of duty – in making sure that UKYP plays its part in sustaining youth voice at local, regional and national levels.”

UKYP was launched in 1999 with the aim of providing young people aged 11 to 18 with a representative and democratic voice at local, regional and national level. Currently, there are over 300 elected Members of the Youth Parliament (MYPs), with a good mix of young men and women, including young people from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, and with physical and learning disabilities.
